Life Begins At 40?

I turned 40 today.

Does Life Begin at 40?

Not really. It begins much sooner. I guess it’s just that you appreciate things that you might not have, when you were a bit younger, just that little bit more when you are 40.

I don’t feel any different but somehow I feel it is an important milestone in my life. And strangely, even though I vowed not to, I found myself reflecting over the past 40 years, and remembering all the good, the bad and the ugly that I’ve seen, been involved in, or witnessed over that period of time.

Fortunately the majority of it has been good… no… not even good… Great. That’s been a blessing and one that I’m thankful for.

What REALLY Matters?

Yet, on a day to day basis it’s easy to forget about all of life’s blessings. I mean the TRUE blessings.

And whilst money is a blessing, for some it can become a curse. And it becomes a curse when it becomes the blessing that deprives you of all else life has blessed you with.

The blessing of parents.

The blessing of a loving partner.

The blessing of siblings.

The blessing of children.

The blessings of friends.

The blessing of noticing the smaller things in life and still getting excited over them.

Why am I saying all of this? Because I’ve been blessed with so much, and yet, it’s easy to neglect many of those blessings in the pursuit of just one of them.

I’ve been guilty of that. And I guess the kick between the teeth is when a heart wrenching situation or news makes you realise that.

Makes you realise… that you have a lot of other blessings in life that it’s all too easy to neglect or to miss out on, because you were “too busy” to appreciate those blessings.

But the reality is, we need to pursue our own goals. And doing that, does eat away our time.  The danger for entrepreneurs is… pursuit of those goals can become totally consuming.

This year, in fact in the past couple of months, I’ve had some extremely challenging news concerning loved ones. And again, as life often does, it made me re-evaluate values, goals, objectives, what’s important and think about life itself.

But that’s life, and s..t happens. That’s not a new revelation to me, or something that I am or have been blind to. It’s something we all know.

It’s just that we forget that or it doesn’t seem REAL until s..t happens to us. Then it’s about how you deal with it, and what if anything, you learn from it, when it does.

F. O. R. T. Y. - Blinking Heck! Where did it creep up on me from? Tempus Fugit!

You know I remember when I turned 30 one of my brothers (I’m the youngest of 6 brothers and 1 sister), said to me… “Wow… that’s when you know you’re getting old… when your kid brother tells you he’s 30.”

That seems like yesterday, and today kid brother turned 40.

Time really does fly. And whilst all of what I’m saying may sound all “heavy sh..t” and it probably is, I’m in great spirits, and plan on having a lot of fun - in fact more fun than I ever have done now that I am proudly in my 40’s

But the REASON I will is through the understanding of the “heavy sh.t” that I’m rambling on about.

In that sense life for ME has started at 40, because it’s now that I can truly prioritise the things that are important to me.

It’s ALL About Them

Something really weird happens when some realisations take hold and as one get’s older - And for the wise, selfishness turns to selflessness during that process.

You see a lot of what I did for “Me” has transformed into doing it for “Them”.  And THAT becomes the source of happiness.

Why do I earn money. I kid you not when I say that it’s not for me. It’s to provide my loved ones with all that they need.

What do I find happiness in… Truly? Seeing my loved ones happy. Depending on a day and on my mood, I may or may not find a comedian funny. But nothing makes me smile faster than seeing one of my kids smile. I laugh more with family and friends than I laugh alone. Their happiness makes me happy.

In business. I make money. I’m making money. Yet over the past couple of years I’ve been working at projects that focus on TRULY helping other people make money. That truly will help them in their business. That for me is the primary goal and I know that if I can do that I will make money as a secondary benefit myself too.

My satisfaction is no longer in “can I make money online?”. I know I can and I know how to do. Making money in itself doesn’t make me happy. I mean it. There is NO satisfaction in that for me. It’s about the process… it’s the “HOW” that matters. How am I making money?

Helping other people make money does.

I’m NOT Alone

Whilst that’s all very altruistic sounding, the reality is, I’m not alone in that.

I’ve had some fantastic mentors. Not mentors in the formal sense - just other great marketers that I’ve worked with, or have the pleasure of working with.

People who REALLY care about the people who they serve and who see their own benefits as a secondary measure and a natural consequence of helping others.

Kevin Riley, Matt Garrett, Soren Jordansen, Craig Desorcy, Willie Crawford, and I could go on and on. I’m not just saying this for the sake of saying it… I really mean it. These people spend 80 percent of their time fretting on how to make sure the users of their products/services get the most from them and really benefit.

You might buy the products from these people. You don’t know their “behind the scenes” conversations. The hours they spend worrying, fretting, wondering over how they can improve something to make it help those they want to help further. I get access to that. I see that. I hear that. I live that.

When you find people who you can SEE are trying to help you… in your personal life, or in business. Make time for them whatever your age.

Learn from them what you can, laugh with them when they laugh and enjoy getting to know how you can add value to others through the value they add to your life.

It’s fun to be 40

So Who Is The 20 Million Dollar Man?

Let me tell you a little bit about the 20 Million Dollar Man, who he is and his amazing life story.

His name is Douglas Goodey, and he was born in 1928 into extreme poverty. He left school at the age of 13, didn’t have any formal qualifications.

His first job was at the age of 9.

He bought his first car when he was 14 (bear in mind that’s in 1942!) with money that he had saved up.

At age 22 he started his first job in sales selling newspaper advertising for a local newspaper. Three months later and he would become Sales Manager. Soon after, he would go on to own that newspaper business.

But that is NOT what made him millions.

No, he left that business and went back into a job again working for another company as an insurance loss assessor, getting paid commission only, and starting from scratch. Over the years he would go on to become the number 1 consultant bringing in the most revenue for himself and for the company.

Was he successful? Yes… Was he afraid of change? No.

Despite being extremely successful at his job and bringing home an extremely lot of money, at the age of 50, he would go on to another job, where he would start off from the bottom rung of the company and employed effectively as a “commission only” sales person selling life insurance. Not only a new job, but an entirely new industry despite his previous employer telling him not to make the move and that it was a tough industry to survive in.

By the age of 60 he was a multi-millionaire and he branched out into real estate with 12 real estate agencies in and around London.

By the time he was 64, he was multi-millionaire.

HOWEVER…

Changes in the economic climate and new tax laws that were introduced by the UK government at that time, left him facing bankruptcy and with…

Over $4.5 Million debt.

Not a nice place to be at the retirement age of 65 is it?

I’ve just turned 39 and find it difficult to envisage what life would be like with (aside from things like mortgages etc…) a $40,000 or $50,000 debt.

Close your eyes for a moment and think about that… what it might feel like to be in $4.5 million worth of debt.

(SHUDDER!) Brrr… the thought is scary.

Losing everything…

Your business, your prestige, your money… everything.

And now people coming to take away your home and everything you’ve worked for.

From the age of 65 to the age of 75… having lost everything and starting from worse than zero… in fact, starting at minus $4.5 Million….

Douglas Goodey went on to not only clear that debt… but to earn just over $20 Million.

Then disaster struck again.

At the age of 75, he suffered 6 strokes in 5 months. Doctors thought he may never be able to speak again. Through his fighting spirit, over the next 5 years, Douglas made a fantastic recovery.

At the age of 80, and against all odds, Douglas reveals his remarkable life story and shares his learnings and how and what led him to making millions with the rest of the world.

This is a story that anyone who wants to learn about success cannot afford to ignore.

Particularly from a man who’s made millions from scratch not just once… but twice over.

A man who despite suffering 6 strokes in 5 months fought back to regain his speech and still at the age of 80 swims 1/2 a mile each and every day.

Douglas Goodey is not only a survivor but he’s an inspiration to anyone from any generation.

You know, each year, I try and find something special to give to my subscribers, and I usually announce my birthday. I don’t do the whole “It’s my birthday buy something from me” kinda thing…

An 80 year old self-made multi-millionaire changed all that for me. In fact, his story has had such a profound impact on me (and it will on anyone who hears it) that I think my thought patterns as far as age, and success and ambition is concerned… I will never think the same again.

I just had one of the most surreal conversations ever…

How many of you know Ben Mack?

Okay well the guy is not only a superb marketing mind, master strategist, excellent speaker and one of the foremost branding consultants in the world…

He’s also a master illusionist, and a mentalist too… which means that often, with Ben… all is not as it seems.

The only fact that you know… is that you are dealing with a brilliant mind and a genius.

So… To say I had the most surreal conversation ever with him today on skype…

Could normally, depending on the day… and his mood…be business as usual.

But what are the workings of the brain of Genius?

And what do you do… when Genius throws your world topsy turvy?

Well here is a conversation I had with Ben today, and…

Let’s say… I asked him afterwords… If I could with his permission post it and let you guys see…

As it just got more and more surreal, and I thought it would make a great competition for people to guess how the conversation came to a close.

So the conversation starts off quite bizarre and appears to get progressively more so.

Now, bear in mind, the time represents MY time in the UK not Ben’s time who is in the US and a few hours behind on me on the time zones.

So although it says 15.53 on my side, it’s early morning for him in the USA.

So… Ben comes on skype… No “good morning” No “hello”.

This is the first message I get…

Ross Goldbergs Internet Marketing Masters Seminar - Las Vegas

Wow, and what a seminar!

Ross Goldberg’s Seminar in Las Vegas was one of the most amazing starts to 2008 for everyone who attended.

For me, it was a pleasure to share the stage together with my business partner Terry Telford to unveil a project that we have been working on for the past few months and that is set to help thousands upon thousands of internet marketers for years to come.

The speaker line up was awesome, and for me personally, being able to meet some great marketers like Harris Fellman, Simon Leung, Ben Mack, Paulie Sabol, Willie Crawford, Mike Morgan, Jason Henderson, Alan Bechtold, and so many others that I could continue to mention - Just meeting them was amazing…. let alone being able to share the same stage as many of them. Of course… Not to forget Ross himself… He’s an amazing guy and deserves all the success in the world, which he already enjoys and then some.

Long may his seminars continue to inspire people from all walks of life and from all parts of the world.

On top of that, I was over the moon to be able to meet Greg and Stephanie Mulac, and their gorgeous little angels, Morgan and Marina… Sal might be the site stealer… but they really are the heart stealers! Stephanie and Greg are the real reason behind me even going to the seminar, and I’m eternally grateful to them for the kick up the backside they gave me to get my butt to Las Vegas, and be a part of what was a truly awesome event.

In turn, I did the same with my good friend Gabriel Aguinaga and persuaded him to come to the conference too… and he’s just as much a cool dude in person as he is in internet marketing. The guy rocks - and it was a pleasure and privelege meeting him (he wasn’t speaking at the event, but no doubt it won’t be long before he’s up there - and he certainly should be!).

Additionally, I together with Terry helped raise money for a childrens charity at the event, and here’s the awesome news: EVERYONE at the conference joined in… And get this… Ross and Harris Doubled the final total!

So some things that happen in Vegas (particularly at Ross Goldberg’s Seminar) don’t stay in Vegas… They help the wider community too. Isn’t that just brilliant?
